Atypic 1

Our very first sailboat, the Atypic 1, was hand-built in 1972 by Yvon Lapierre in Laval, Quebec, at a time when boats were built to be able to sail for a long time. This custom fiberglass sailboat is exceptionally robust and is one of a kind. This is a magnificent sailing vessel with a ketch rig and double keel, measuring 43 feet long (13 m) by 10 feet wide (3 m), with a shallow draft of only 4 feet (1 .2 m) and an air draft of 48 feet (14.6 m). Its total weight reaches 13 tonnes, making it a solid and resistant boat, but also very slow.

When purchased, its hull was standard, we first repainted it white. Then, Jessie Armand, an incredible Quebec artist and childhood friend of Patrice, spent 2 days hand-drawing the sailboat in Sharpie pencil, giving it a unique touch. Thanks to his artistic talent, our sailboat has become a true floating work of art.

We were proud to sail this custom sailboat, which perfectly reflected our love for adventure and originality, and to pilot it ourselves to the crystal clear waters of the Bahamas, making a big dream come true.

With him, we learned everything and experienced everything for the first time: our first sea voyages, our first sailing trips, our first hurricanes, our first fears, and our first fish catches. During our travels, we visited 17 countries, from Quebec to Panama. Countless memories were forged aboard this sailboat. He protected us from three hurricanes, and we even faced and survived the Caribbean's Cape Horn in Colombia with him. It allowed us to leave our previous lives, embark on this crazy adventure, grow and learn! It was our first floating house, and in exchange, we introduced him to the ocean for the first time...
